Why Choosing the Right Family Photographer Matters
It happened. You finally get everyone on board to take the family photos! You have an outfit and color scheme in mind, you can just see how perfect the pictures will look on your walls, you know exactly the ones you want to post to instagram, but now you actually aren’t sure which photographer you should use. That’s where I am here to help!
Firsts, if you have young kids this is an even bigger decision! Why? Because if you have high energy kiddos that want to move can you imagine if the photographer asked them to sit still, smile, and have their hands in their lap? What if your sweet kiddo is very shy and your photographer is a louder personality that might feel overwhelming? Now, most photographers will react to your individual family’s needs, but how can you begin to choose? And why does it really matter?
Friends, this is a relationship you probably wouldn’t anticipate having, let alone being important! For many, this is something you budget for all year so that you can watch your family grow over the years. Who you choose can really bum you out, or even have your husband saying, “That was actually kind of fun.” This is a relationship that can last for years!
Personally, I cannot tell you how special it is to see certain families every year to catch up while we take photos! I get to see their kids grow, hear about their new jobs, school life, hobbies that the kids love, and check in on how their year has been. Why can I do this? Because I have taken the time to get to know them. We follow each other on social media, check in every so often, and make sure to be intentional! This is something you know can really make you comfortable in front of a camera.
Why does all of this matter though? Why is extra sweet to know and be known by your family photographer? Let me tell you. It is because YOU matter. You matter, and so does your family. It matters that you have set aside your monthly, or yearly, budget to spend on capturing your family through professional photos. It matters that your photographer remembers all of your family member’s names. That your voice and family tone is what is coming through the photos.
Because of those reasons, your photographer should care too. If they don’t then you need to find a new family photographer, and that’s okay!
