How to Make Sure You Choose the Correct Wedding Photographer

Congratulations! You are here because you are engaged, about to be engaged, and trying to make sure you choose a team of vendors you love. Now, your photographer has the ability to make you feel comfortable, cared for, heard, and like they are your best friend who happened to bring their camera. Or, they are pushy, looking for the shot instead of the people in the photo, makes the timeline centered around the photos, and leaves you giving your significant other “ the look” throughout the day. So, can you actually know who to choose? We see their grids on instagram, their videos on TikTok, their websites look professional and fun, but do you like them?

And I don’t mean like them as an acquaintance or a nice grocery store clerk. I mean do you like them to be part of one of the biggest days of your life? Do you think they will have your back if things start to get testy on wedding day? Do they listen to kind of photos you want on your wedding day and not their own agenda to build their portfolio? A lot of these questions can be answered with a consult call!

Before you book with any vendor you should talk to them! That may seem obvious, but in a digital age where you can easily never talk to your vendor team beyond email it is imperative. So what does a consult call do? It gives you a no strings attached meeting to see if you click. Sometimes you will immediately know if this is someone you want to part of your wedding day, and other times you politely say it’s just not a great fit.

Before I jump on a consult call with a potential bride I have her write down a couple of things:

  • What do you want to remember on your wedding day?

  • How can I best serve you as your photographer?

  • What style of photos do you love and want hanging in your home?

  • Tell me your love story! How you met, when you knew you wanted to be married to each other, and how wedding planning has been going.

My goal in this call is to hear what the bride wants and how I can support her in these things! Sometimes we are a perfect match, and other times we aren’t. When we aren’t a match I love to pass along other photographers that will fit their needs better! So, take a breath, check their website, send the inquiry, and get a consult call to find your vendors! I would love to help you with your wedding photography needs! Let’s get a call scheduled!
